SZA aka Solana Rowe, is an up and coming singer songwriter from Missouri. She self-release her EP titled See: SZA Run, October 2012, and her second “S” the following year. SZA was then signed with Top Dog Entertainment, releasing “Z”, her first retail release April 2014. January 2016 she was featured on Rihanna’s ambient track “Consideration” .
SZA has been described as minimalist R&B, cloud rap, witch house and chill wave. Her style is artistic and deep, as in her video “Babylon” which is exemplary of her influences in interpretive dance and boasts beautiful imagery. SZA prides herself in her artistic self-expression, and her style could be compared to other artists of her genre such as FKA Twigs, but it is undeniable that SZA has a natural talent and style of her own. Her vocal style is heavily influenced by classics such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Holiday. Her lyrics are progressive and powerful, making for great listening material anyone can appreciate.
