“Can’t Contain My Feeling” has a wobbly wave of a chorus, as well as limbering acoustic guitars and a searing drum beat. Check out the first song on the album, Letters of Gold, below.
Right from the start of this album, Dan Tuffy showcases a range of vocal talent. From screeching excitement to almost muted moments of self-containment, the opener is definitely a highlight.
It’s been 3 years since Dan’s 2017 debut solo album “Songs from Dan” which gathered much critical praise and had him busy touring Australia and Europe. In the meantime, he has worked quietly away on his new album, taking his time to get it just right.
“Home Fires” is the true standout of the album. Not because it doesn’t sound like anything else on this project, but because if the strange mix of high pitched notes between Dan’s honest if not dreary lament of missing someone badly.
There is clarity within Dan’s emotional lyrics and vocal desperation, and with the guitar melting against a tamper of tremolo keyboards, this song simply shreds.
If you have the time, check out Letters of Gold. It is a great piece of jangled blues rock, Tuffy’s storytelling swagger, and a great mix of bitingly original electric guitar work.
