Academy Awards: ‘Spotlight’ Wins Best Picture Award; ‘Mad Max’ Wins 6 Awards at 88th Annual Oscars

The Academy Awards this year was nothing but eventful. From the amazing sweep of Mad Max: Fury Road, to Leonardo DiCaprio finally getting his well-deserved Oscar for Best Actor, the night was full of memorable moments for movies. Here are some awards of note:

The seductive Alicia Vikander of Ex Machina fame wins out for her role in The Danish Girl. Her team in Ex Machina also wins for Visual Effects.

Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay was given to the crime drama Spotlight, directed by Tom McCarthy and written by Josh Singer and Tom McCarthy. Though this won best picture, the movie of the night was Mad Max: Fury Road with Best Production Design, Makeup, Sound Editing, among others, taking the stage by storm.

And it’s impossible to ignore the lovable Inside Out for winning Best Animated Feature, an almost no-brainer due to Pixar’s unbelievable consistency.
