On August 7th 2015 Light in the Attic Records will be releasing the soundtrack to the film “Low Down” – a biopic film about the life of Joe Albany, an extraordinarily talented yet under rated jazz pianist. The film follows the biography of the same name written by Albany’s daughter and highlights all of the high points and pitfalls of Albany’s life.
The “Low Down” soundtrack features a rich collection of songs from Albany’s catalog and songs by Coleman Hawkins, Max Roach and Thelonious Monk. If there is one theme that seems to tie all of these songs together even without much in the way of any lyrics (as most of the songs are instrumental) it would be romance/love. In a multitude of ways it showcases the emotions one goes through when meeting someone special and does so in a way that no mere words could ever dream of expressing. The songs go from lively and captivating to slow and intimate; providing mental imagery for every last feeling. There is an overall feeling of soft warmth that courses through every song, especially the older recordings of Albany himself. This soundtrack does a fantastic job of providing emotional insight into an unequaled musician.
