Wayne, NJ based project Boosegumps (a project lead by songwriter Heeyoon) have just released a calm, warm, and relaxing new single called “Stole Ur Bike” (which can be listened to below via SoundCloud) which is part of a collection of B sides getting released next month on October 31st via It Takes Time Records.
I was intrigued to check this song because of the name and the way it was spelled out in internet speak. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by how soothing it was. It’s like an old warm familiar blanket that you can wrap around yourself and remember the good old days of your youth. The simplistic instrumentation provides enough musical presence while leaving enough space for you to focus on the lyrics being expressed through Heeyoon’s soft singing. Stereogum further describes the song saying:
“Stole Ur Bike” is one of those B-sides, and its simple construction begets a sweet, pensive atmosphere. Here, dreams become messy watercolor approximations of actual memories; tender thoughts act as a stand-in for a more substantial connection. It’s the kind of songwriting that may appear flimsy on the surface, but underneath lies a warm, comforting heart.
Though “Stole Ur Bike” isn’t a very long song (clocking in at a minute and a half) it is more than enough to take you to a different more relaxed place than you were before.
