London based Swedish band FEWS are shrouded in a great deal of mystery, but one thing we do know is they have been working with producer Dan Carey and that they just signed to Play It Again Sam. It shows through their most recent driving single “The Zoo” (which can be listened to below via SoundCloud).

“The Zoo” has a steady punchy bass line that twinges with fuzz and it really does create the sense of driving down the highway at night with your windows rolled down. The guitar melodies while repetitive and simple create a sense of urgency and tension. The vocals on the other hand provide an unusual sense of calmness and have almost a celestial pseudo-Pink Floyd vibe to them. Stereogum goes into further detail, saying:

Having just been signed to Play It Again Sam earlier this year, FEWS’ treatment of malevolent post-punk in new track “The Zoo” is a swaggering undertaking that bears additional semblance to DIIV and Faust. If you take all this in and then add Carey’s input to the mix — his producing repertoire includes TOY, SEXWITCH, and Childhood, to name a few — it’ll be no doubt that FEWS are a band worth keeping an eye (or ear) on.

FEWS could go in so many interesting directions at this point so it really will be intriguing to pay attention and see which ones they take.
