Gun Outfit – “Worldly Way”

Former Olympia and now Los Angeles based folk rockers Gun Outfit have just released a somewhat melancholic new single “Worldly Way” (which can be listened to below via SoundCloud) that will be on their upcoming fourth album “Dream All Over” which will be out on October 16th via Paradise of Bachelors.

“Worldy Way” has a rather ambient intro that draws the listener in and immerses them for about a minute before the drums and vocals kick in. The electric guitar work is actually quite melodic; definitely not something heard all that often in a genre that has been primarily acoustic for so many decades. Stereogum further describes “Worldly Way” saying:

The droning, sun-fried desert mysticism of “Worldly Way,” however, introduces a slightly manic edge to Dylan Sharp’s drawling vocals. “Oh world, what knowledge do you teach?” he asks, before answering his own question: “To grow a tail and chase it/ Or sit awhile in grief.”

The amount of layering in “Worldly Way” in terms of soundscape and profound meaningful lyrics is quite commendable in terms of Gun Outfit’s song writing. You can tell a lot of care goes into what they do as a group.
