Melbourne based experimental garage rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have released a hypnotic and psychedelic new single “Trapdoor” (which can be listened to below via YouTube) from their upcoming album Paper Mâché Dream Balloon which will be out on November 13th via ATO Records.

“Trapdoor” can seem kind of repetitive at times, but it uses that to bring you into more of a trance. Just when you think it can not go any deeper, all of a sudden there is a great deal of Jethro Tull-like flute work done in the background to add another layer of depth to the song. Noisey describes the song saying:

Melbourne-based King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard started in 2010 and has slowly but surely evolved from garage band and into psychedelia, krautrock, and experimentalism. With their latest effort Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, due on November 13 via ATO Records, the expands that blueprint further. Their latest track “Trapdoor” is a funky one, using a syncopated groove with punctuation from flute riffs, echo-heavy violin, and lots of of shaker.

With this taste of what is to come from the new album, I can only imagine how much further down the rabbit hole King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s songs will go.
