Megafaun banjoist Phil Cook has just put out a new single that matches his last name well. It’s a cheery upbeat southern dance tune called “Ain’t It Sweet” (and can be listened to below) that is from his upcoming album “Southland Mission” that will be out September 11th via Thirty Tigers/Middle West.

The most eargasmic arm hair raising part of this hoe down is the vocal harmonies. I haven’t heard anything quite like that since The Eagles or The Doobie Brothers. Justin Vernon lent his talents as the backing vocals. The banjo playing of course only heightens the already heavenly southern musical experience that is this song. Stereogum further goes on to describe the song saying:

His latest release off the album is “Ain’t It Sweet,” a zydeco-infused, lilting celebration of love and life, spiked with ragtime piano, a crackling guitar solo, and a whole sanctuary full of organ.

With so many instruments working together to make something that makes you feel a genuine sense of happiness just listening to it, I can only imagine how good the rest of “Southland Mission” is going to be.
