The long awaited new release by Autolux, Pussy’s Dead, is almost here. This shoegaze gem is set to release April 1st through 30th Century Records.
This new album is chock full of mind-melting lyricism with immersive static rhythms. From the opening track, with heart-wrenching, empathetic lyrics, it flows consistently until the end acoustic guitar strum at the beginning of the final track. The listener is taken on a journey of self-discovery right until the last note fades out.
The album presents a very distinctive atmosphere which is tangible and intimate. This is relayed in the nice pacing of the record, illuminated by its trademark bellows of energy and moments of contemplative quiet. There is always something interesting and unexpected for the ear. The way the seemingly disjointed synth-like sounds and meticulously articulated drumbeats sync together is refreshing and new.
The best aspect about this album is its consistency in being surprising; there’s always something to keep you on your toes so you don’t get too lost in the grungy dream-like state these tracks could cause you.
If you’re a fan of the Amnesiac-age of Radiohead or Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? from of Montreal, and haven’t listened to Autolux before, your ears will thank you for the present.
