Shlohmo Announces New Album, Dark Red, Listen to New Single

LA producer Henry Laufer, better known as Shlohmo, is set to release his sophomore album, Dark Red, the follow up to 2011’s underrated gem Bad Vibes.  It is set to release on April 7th via True Panther.  He’s also revealed a new track from his forthcoming LP called “Buried”.  Shlohmo has evolved his signature sound, beats that sound like they were made underwater, and pushes it into new sludge metal territory.  “It is like if Electric Wizard tried to make an R&B record,” he says or “Boards of Canada meets Burzum by the River Styx.”

“Buried” starts out with an almost Andy Stott-esque vibe, a punching bass line over ambient noise with guitar licks slowly dropping in and out.  It’s the type of slow burner you’d come to expect from Shlohmo.  It doesn’t come swinging out of the gate and builds into a crescendo of drums.  By the time it’s over you’re wondering what just hit you and ready to listen again.  Stream “Buried” and “Emerge from the Smoke” below.
