CMJ 2014: #Shoegaze Documentary and Q&A With Slowdive Members

Not only because the shoegaze movement pulls my heart strings, but because Nick Chaplin and Simon Scott from @slowdiveband will be there for a Q&A. How awesome is that? New York – September 29, 2014 CMJ Music Marathon 2014 is excited to announce additions to this year’s lineup of daytime conference events. Among the many highlights is an afternoon screening of Eric Green’s Beautiful Noise, a documentary about the origins of the shoegaze movement. Immediately following the film, CMJ 2014 panel attendees take part in  a live Q&A with Nick Chaplin and Simon Scott, members of the iconic shoegaze band Slowdive.

CMJ 2014 film screenings also include a showing of Metalhead, an Icelandic heavy metal-centric drama that has garnered widespread critical acclaim. The Color Of Noise, a documentary about legendary noise punk label Amphetamine Reptile Records joins the lineup, followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Eric Robel and the label’s founder, Tom Hazelmyer, aka Haze XXL.

This year’s programming also features an interactive audience workshop focused on strategies for YouTube audience development, hosted by expert members of the YouTube staff. 

CMJ 2014 speakers and panelists are some of the industry’s foremost writers, thinkers and pioneers, including:

Michael Azerrad, Christopher R. Weingarten, Steve Rifkind, Win Music founder Sean Glass, and Viacom Brands Israel Creative VP Elad Sonego.

2014 panelists also include renowned music critics, editors and publishers behind publications like The Fader, The Talkhouse, Noisey, Rolling Stone and Wax Poetics. Attendees will learn about the state of feminism in the modern music industry, music synchronization licensing, the evolving musical ecosystem in South Africa, the so-called emo revival, the sustainability of festival culture, cutting edge hip-hop and EDM marketing strategies, and many other topics relevant to the future of the music business and music culture.

CMJ 2014 daytime programming also boasts a full roster of International Day events, including discussions about international promotion and touring, U.S. artist visa policies and exclusive international networking sessions
