“Body Work” by Negative Gemini
Track Review:
When I read Chris March’s article about “Body Work” by Negative Gemini, I could not wait to hear the track. March said, “[Body Work is] an ethereal, dreamily brooding club track that we imagine would sound even more glorious and hypnotic in the confines of a cavernous warehouse rave, and luckily, we’ll be able to find out for sure … at SXSW” (GorillavsBear). I must agree; Lindsey French’s vocal stylings are intoxicating. “Body Work” demands that all encompassing electric pulse be housed in rave environs. The magic the song weaves will be complete in darkness, throbbing bodies, and raver light-sticks. Noah Jackson, during an interview with French, described her artistic talent as able to own two worlds: music and lyrics. Jackson said, “In the vein of shoegaze singers…[French’s] intoxicating voice holds its own against heavy instrumentation, forcing the listener to acknowledge the person behind the beats” (Nylon).
